Nickel electroplating, nickel electro-deposition, is the process of transferring nickel to the surface of another metal by method of electric current. It is commonly used to improve wear and increase corrosion resistance along with adding thickness to parts. A bright or satin appearance can be achieved with this plating material therefor improving the aesthetics of the part.
Nickel-plated parts are found in industrial applications to consumer goods, and fall within the categories of decorative, functional or electroforming. The coating process can be diversified to use any combination of the aforementioned categories.
Some benefits of this plating are:
- Improved corrosion resistance
- Greater hardness
- Wear resistance
- Friction reduction
